Why Float Therapy?

Floating has become a respected health practice, with benefits ranging from pain relief and stress reduction to improved focus.

Brain and Body

Our brains and bodies are bombarded by our environment. We get overwhelmed, and the stress can physically manifest into pain. Reduced external stimulation on the nervous system has a direct effect on the hypothalamus, the brain’s control center. When floating you achieve a level of physical relaxation that is beyond that which you receive when sleeping due to the lack of external stimulation. While floating, research shows that large areas of your brain are liberated from their normal task of processing signals from the nervous system and organs, which allows your brain to enter the theta state or “dream state”. One can only enter the theta state while awake through floating. Floating in a floatation tank triggers a deep relaxation response, much deeper than normal sleep.

Clinical research

Clinical research has shown that profound relaxation in a float tank triggers the production of endorphin’s. Endorphin’s interact with the opiate receptors in your brain to reduce the perception of pain and also ignite well-being. They act like morphine, only without the addiction and withdrawal symptoms.

Secretion of endorphin’s leads to feelings of happiness, modulation of appetite, release of sex hormones, and enhancement of your immune system. With high endorphin levels, we feel less pain and fewer negative effects of stress. By taking away gravity from your joints, and soaking up the Epsom salts, floating eases inflammatory pain caused by arthritis.

While Floating

While floating you will notice your breath deepen, and in turn your heart rate slows down. You won’t even know it’s happening at first, it’s an automatic response. Floating on a consistent basis also aids in regulation of blood pressure.

While floating, the pressure of gravity is taken off the joints and muscles and the body as a whole is put in to a high state of physical relaxation. Both blood pressure and oxygen intake are reduced but at the same time blood flow and the distribution of red blood cells increase.

Best For Athelete

Physical exercise can cause a build-up of lactic acid, which is often experienced as pain and a cramping of the muscles, and has been linked with the feelings of depression known as ‘post-game letdown’ which can affect even part-time joggers. Floating resets the body’s chemical and metabolic balance, thus reducing the risk of over training.

Modern training methods focus on helping the athlete to master the ‘inner game’ to develop the perfect synchronicity between mind, body and emotion which is the hallmark of a champion.

The float room is a very unique and effective tool. The decrease in stimuli and anti-gravity sensations leave the body feeling refreshed and rejuvenated due to natural endorphins released from the brain. Scientific research and client testimonials show that floating on a regular basis can have dramatic results in lowering stress and repairing the body.
A float room, also known as a sensory deprivation or isolation tank, is a 6’ wide X 8’ long X 7’ high tank with a large access door for entry, and filled with about 10 inches of water and around 1,100 lbs of high pharmaceutical grade Epsom salt, allowing the user to escape the effects of gravity and float like a cork. The water is heated to skin temperature (93.5°F). Our float rooms are totally enclosed producing a light and sound proof environment. Floating has been commonly described as similar to relaxing in outer space or being back in the womb. It is like no other experience in the world!
Yes, no matter size or weight, everyone is able to float. This is due to the high Epsom salt concentration which pushes you upward, making you float like a cork. As you lay back, the water will reach the temples; leaving your eyes, nose and mouth fully exposed to the air. For some perspective, ocean water is 3% saturated with salt, our float tank is 35% saturated. Just lie back and relax.
We encourage clients to check with their doctor when beginning any new health regimen, such as flotation. However, Float Therapy is safe for just about everyone! However, those with epileptic conditions or who have kidney disease (as the kidneys are responsible for processing magnesium) should take extra precautions in consulting their physician before floating.
Yes! In fact, pregnant clients may experience some of the greatest relief from floating physically and mentally. The added weight and pressure on the mother’s body is likely to cause pain and discomfort, the weightless impact of floating can provide much relief! Many clients report a unique and memorable experience floating while pregnant.

Relaxation, Restoration and Recovery like you have never experienced before.

We believe the opportunity to float in a warm, weightless, quiet environment is a gift to humanity. Our center will always be a clean, inviting and hopeful expression of this gift.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I founded a CRPS group here in San Antonio. SanAntonio/CRPS/RSD iSofloat and Sloane Wendell are EXCELLENT and PROFESSIONAL! Then add a complete spa experience from the towels, shower, body wash, shampoo and lotion offered after the float. Amazing! The float is so relaxing! Your body has no pressure or pressure points so being completely pain free is a euphoric sensation. For one hour NOTHING hurt! I did not fall asleep but I did lose awareness of time and my surroundings. My body and senses were all relaxed together! This is the full package place! ‐ Maria

I must admit at first I was skeptical floating might help my sleep and my stress levels, and most especially I was hesitant it might aid in my treatments for PTSD however, I am very happy to conclude my experiences at iSoFloat now open in San Antonio have been nothing short of AMAZING. My sleep is so much more sound and as far as my PTSD is concerned, loud noises that would have bothered me in the past no longer bother me as much; I'm so much more at peace now and the level of my calm only increases the more I visit. This is an amazing place to rejuvenate and relax - I cannot recommend this enough and I cannot stop telling my friends and family about my amazing experiences. The effects last long after you've left the facility - it's incredible.... ‐ H.B.

Best experience I have ever had. My first float! The people were great and the float was unbelievable ‐ Kathy H.

I experienced my first float yesterday and completely loved it!! I was a little nervous at first but the staff did a great job explaining everything to me and making me feel comfortable. The atmosphere is very calming and I couldn't help but notice how clean everything was. I floated for an hour and it was probably the most relaxed hour I have had to myself in a long long time. I will definitely be going back for more floats. ‐ Kim R.

I had my first float experience yesterday and I was pleasantly pleased. The massage chair was a great way for me to wind down and the float room was comfortable and relaxing. The whole place was relaxing and comfortable, which is important to me. I will definitely be going back. ‐ Melissa G.

I was on my way home from the VA and this made my day. I got more pain relief than I did in one physical therapy session. And it calmed my mind!! Thank you iSofloat for taking care of Veterans!! ‐ Steph

Went yesterday for the first time. Got the hour massage before the hour float session. Could not recommend this enough, had one of the best nights sleep I had in a long time. The staff was great and informative ‐ Michael
